(Only read the first 20 pages, so bear with me)
To the OP, thank you for taking the time to interact with us to try and resolve the issues presented here.
I cannot begin to express my disappointment with the events over the few weeks or so. I have been playing Eve since 2004. That is a testament to the remarkable game you have created and the incredibly involved community that has grown with Eve and, to an extent, with CCP as a whole. Through that time, I have lived through a lot of other CCP related amusements, but, when the dust settled, although I was usually a bit saddened, I still had faith that CCP had an understanding, or at least empathy for its player base. I felt CCP was worth trusting in that they knew their players and what they wanted.
I cannot feel that way any more.
I look at the events/issues that have brought us to this point, and the main ones (3PP fees, Incarna release, and the infamous æGreed is GoodÆ PDF) all point to one thing: CCP does not know how to interact with its players. All of these items, whether we as players liked or disliked them, were turned into a massive conflagration of hate because CCPÆs ability to communicate with the player base was, at the very best, done poorly and with little understanding of how we, as players, view Eve and EveÆs future.
Right now, CCPÆs vision of the game and the playersÆ vision of the game are not the same. How did this happen? How did these visions split and turn into so much rage? CCP, the company, has on many fronts failed to communicate with us HONESTLY and FORTHRIGHTLY. How can we know your vision when you tell us one thing (Incarna optional, MT for Vanity items only) but then turn around and say/do something different? (Incarna temporarily optional, planning on MT for non-vanity items) How can we share your vision if we cannot trust what you say? What we need is to have a clear understanding of where you, CCP, see Eve heading so that we, the players, can either comment on it, commit to it or, if we do not like what we see, move on.
You also have so many tools (the CSM, the fanfest round tables, the devblogs/comments, the forums) to both air your ideas and vet them, and yet they never seem to be taken seriously. You try to communicate with us, ask us for feedback, ask for our help in testing/solving issues. This is great, and the players respond to the call. However, the feedback almost never gets taken seriously or even seems to be acknowledged. Many a time we get CCP people commenting on how whiny we are or that we should HTFU.
You want to know why we are angry? We are angry because, at this point in time, CCP has lost touch with us, the players. CCP has taken our trust and passion for their product and stomped on it not once, but repeatedly. CCP has asked us for what we want and, when we answered, gone in a completely different direction. CCP has a vision for the future, but it will not share it with the players. We love this game. We want to still love this game as we move forward, but we cannot do that if CCP cannot be honest with us and tell us where they, CCP, want to see Eve go in the future. Let us know that and, if you want our help in shaping EveÆs future, show us that we matter to you as more than just fountains of dollars and actually listen to us. Work with us. But do not lie to us.
